How I Plan to Survive Election Week

Whooo boy. How’s your anxiety this week?

Weirdly, mine’s the lowest it’s been in months. Maybe because there’s really nothing left for me to do. (For the moment – additional activism comes later.) I’ve supported the candidates and causes I care most about. I’ve voted. I’ve encouraged a few other people to vote, and talked through some local issues with friends, family, and even the physical therapist helping me with my back pain.

So now, I’m done, except for the waiting. Tonight, my husband and I are going to a movie, because we need a reason to turn off our phones for a few hours.

Tomorrow, depending on how much we know, and how things look, I’ll have to make my decisions one day at a time. I’m choosing to focus on hope, because it feels better than focusing on fear. And I honestly have no idea which feeling is more warranted.

I wish I had wiser words than that, but these “unprecedented times” are wearing us all out.

So – here are some cat pictures. We adopted Malcolm and Zoe in October of 2016, and they’ve helped lift our spirits on countless occasions since.

The face of a gray-and-white cat who has snuck under the covers and stuck his head out.
A calico cat with both front paws on a feather duster, looking up at the camera like she's been caught doing something she shouldn't be doing.
